Sep 01, 2021 45 years of milling on Trees and Bridgeports mills. Cant remember the last time I used the knee lock. Boring tool steel ( H13 A2 P20 ) ,I would lock the spindel in the up position and feed the table up cranking the knee. When I saw a new hire using table / knee locks cutting aluminum with a 3/8 endmill, he's days were numbered.

Jul 17, 2010 I just picked up my Frejoth mill head yesterday from Don Miller in Livermore, CA, in the east San Francisco Bay area. Don is an amazing 69 year old mechanic who has (had) an auto brake and repair shop in Livermore and who started repairing and rebuilding vertical knee mills in 1993.

Nov 26, 2020 Neither my early smaller round column mill drill nor my newer baby knee mill had/has a spindle lock. I found from some testing that I didn't need to go mondo crazy on the tightening torque for either. So simply holding the pulley was/is fine. My first round column machine had an MT3 taper as well.

Apr 05, 2010 I had a Frejoth mill a while back and it was a smaller mill than the standard BP or clone. They were a copy of an older US design, but the name escapes me right now. Weighed about a thousand lbs, no nod on the head, table was 7x32 as I recall and the head looked like a mill drill, but the table moved on a rigid column, so functioned as a knee mill.
